University of Bologna: funding, eligibility and deadlines

What the funding covers

A total exemption from university fees for students who qualify for, and apply for, the ER.GO scholarship.
A yearly ER.GO scholarship that depends on family income and where you live: up to €7,171.11 for students living away from home (the 2026–27 rate for the lowest income band).
Access to ER.GO accommodation through its ranking list, for students who apply for it.
Separately, the university offers a reduced fixed fee to students from certain developing and non-OECD countries.

Students enrolling in a bachelor's, master's or single-cycle degree at the University of Bologna, including international students.
Family economic indicators below the thresholds: ISEE up to €25,000 and ISPE up to €50,000 for 2026–27. Students with family income abroad calculate these using documents from their home country.
For the higher 'non-resident' amount, you must live more than 90 minutes by public transport from your campus at home, and rent in the university city for at least ten months.

Apply for admission to your degree programme at the University of Bologna.
Collect your family's income and asset documents from your home country early — they usually need official translation and legalisation or an apostille.
Apply to ER.GO online during its window: for 2026–27 it ran from 23 June to 24 August 2026 (until 4 pm on the last day), for both the scholarship and the fee exemption.
Complete enrolment by the university's deadline to keep your eligibility; rankings are published afterwards.

The ER.GO window closes in late August — before many international students have arrived. Start the income paperwork in spring.
This is need-based: applicants from higher-income families do not qualify, however strong their grades.
Late applications are not accepted, and missing documents are a common reason for exclusion.
