Romanian Government Scholarship: funding, eligibility and deadlines

What the funding covers

No registration, tuition or other fees, for the standard length of the programme.
A preparatory year of Romanian language, also fee-free.
A monthly scholarship during the preparatory year and the degree.
Accommodation in student dormitories, within the available places and the allocated subsidy.

Citizens of non-EU countries. People of Romanian origin, those with protection status in Romania, diplomatic staff and international-organisation staff based in Romania are excluded.
An average of at least 7 out of 10 (or 'Good') in your most recent completed studies.
Bachelor's and master's study is in Romanian only; doctoral study may be in Romanian or another language the doctoral school uses.
Medicine, dental medicine and pharmacy are not available through this scholarship.

Create an account on the Study in Romania scholarships portal (scholarships.studyinromania.gov.ro).
Upload the required documents during the application period — for 2026/27 it ran from 16 February to 31 March 2026.
Choose your preferred programmes and universities in the form.
Results are published around mid-July; successful candidates then arrange their visa and start the preparatory year in the autumn.

Plan for five years for a bachelor's degree (one preparatory year plus four years of study) unless you can prove Romanian at B1 or previous study in Romanian.
Programmes are taught in Romanian, so commit fully to the language year — you will study your degree in it.
The monthly amount is modest; check the current figure on the portal's FAQ and budget accordingly.
