About the position

The MR physics group in the Department of Medical Radiation Physics works on new techniques for quantitative MRI.

This project develops methods for enhancing and analysing diffusion MRI images, aiming to identify tissue features such as cell density, cell shape, cell size, blood volume and membrane permeability as possible imaging biomarkers.

What you will do

  • Work on image reconstruction, deep learning and programming of the MRI scanner.
  • Carry out experiments and analyse patient data.
  • Publish your results as journal articles that form part of your thesis. Teaching and departmental work can take up to 20% of your time.

Who can apply

  • A second-cycle qualification, or at least 240 credits with at least 60 at second-cycle level, or equivalent knowledge from Sweden or abroad.
  • A degree in medical physics or an equivalent foreign qualification, or another 240-credit programme with at least 60 credits directly relevant to the subject and an independent master's project of at least 30 credits.
  • Spoken and written English are assessed, with no minimum test score stated.
  • Selection also weighs grades, mathematics, statistics, physics, signal processing and computing, your master's project, and knowledge of MRI, modelling, programming and deep learning.

What is offered

  • A salaried, fixed-term, full-time doctoral post at Lund University. The vacancy gives no salary figure.
  • Four years of full-time study, from 1 January 2027 or as agreed. Teaching extends the employment accordingly.

How to apply

  • Apply through Lund's vacancy portal by 1 December 2026, in Swedish or English.
  • Send a CV, a personal letter on your interest and how the project matches your background, certificates showing you meet the requirements, and a copy of your master's thesis. Top-ranked candidates may be interviewed.
