PhD in biomarkers for neurodegenerative diseases: the body clock in Huntington's disease

Find out whether disruptions to the body's circadian clock change the course of Huntington's disease, and whether adjusting the clock could slow it. The work mixes lab experiments with data analysis, including RNA sequencing.

About the position

The Biomarkers in Brain Disease group, in Lund's Department of Experimental Medical Science, works in a shared environment of five neurodegeneration groups and is active in the European Huntington's Disease Network and the Lund University Huntington Centre.

This project asks whether disruptions to the circadian clock affect how Huntington's disease progresses, and whether changing clock function could alter that course. It combines in vitro and in vivo work with methods such as RNA sequencing.

What you will do

  • Carry out lab experiments in cells and in animal models, and analyse the data.
  • Use methods such as RNA sequencing to follow how the disease changes.
  • You may also supervise bachelor's or master's students.

Who can apply

  • A second-cycle degree, or at least 240 credits with at least 60 at second-cycle level, or equivalent knowledge.
  • Applicants who graduated no more than three years before the closing date are given priority.
  • Knowledge of molecular biology and neurodegeneration, in vivo and in vitro experience, and primer design and RT-PCR work count in your favour, as do good spoken and written English.

What is offered

  • A salaried, fixed-term, full-time doctoral post at Lund University. The vacancy gives no salary figure.
  • Four years of full-time study, starting on 1 January 2027 or as agreed.

How to apply

  • Apply through Lund's vacancy portal by 23 November 2026. Applications are reviewed as they arrive, so apply early.
  • Send a cover letter on your interest and how your background matches, a CV and your degree certificate. Transcripts, referees and recommendation letters are optional.
