France's Eiffel Excellence Scholarship programme, run by Campus France for the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, has opened its 2027 call. French universities and research organisations must submit their candidates to Campus France by 6 January 2027, and results are published from 12 April 2027.
Students cannot apply to Campus France themselves. You apply through the French institution where you want to study, which runs its own selection first and closes well before January. At Université Paris-Saclay the internal deadline is 6 November 2026 for PhD candidates and 26 November 2026 for master's candidates.
Under the programme rules for the 2027 session, scholars receive €1,200 a month at master's level and €2,000 a month at PhD level, although Campus France's overview page and some universities give €2,100 for PhD. The scholarship also refunds part of the flights to France and home, enrols scholars in health insurance and helps them find housing. It does not pay tuition fees.
Master's awards last up to 24 months from the first year of a master's, 12 months from the second and 36 months for an engineering degree. PhD awards last 12, 18 or 36 months; the 36-month award is only for new candidates starting a doctorate in France. Funded studies must start between 1 September and 30 November 2027.
The programme encourages applicants up to 29 at master's level and 35 at PhD level, in seven fields: biology and health, ecological transition, mathematics and digital technology, engineering sciences, French history, language and civilisation, law and political science, and economics and management. It cannot be combined with another French government scholarship, an Erasmus+ scholarship or an award from the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie.
Our Eiffel Excellence Scholarship page lists the documents universities ask for. For what a year in France costs beyond the allowance, see our guide to the real cost of free tuition.
