Chevening, the UK government's international scholarship programme, closes applications for 2027–28 at 11:00 UTC on 6 October 2026. After that moment the online application system can no longer be opened.
Chevening funds a one-year master's degree at a UK university. Applications opened on 4 August 2026. Our page on Chevening Scholarships sets out who can apply and what the award covers.
After the deadline, applications are checked against the eligibility criteria, and independent reading committees assess the eligible ones from mid-October 2026 to January 2027. British embassies and high commissions draw up shortlists in mid-February 2027 and interview candidates in March and April.
Shortlisted candidates must upload their documents, including photo ID, their undergraduate certificate and their reference letters, at least seven working days before the interview. Results are announced from mid-June 2027. Successful candidates must then secure at least one unconditional offer from a UK university by 17:00 UK time on 8 July 2027, and start their studies in September or October 2027.
If you are aiming for next year's round instead, our application timeline and document checklist help you prepare early.
