What the funding covers
- Course fees in full, for Home and Overseas fee status students.
- A grant for living expenses of at least the UKRI minimum doctoral stipend rate for full-time scholars: at least £20,780 in 2025–26.
- Funding for the course's period of fee liability; some divisions add a further period with the living grant only.
- Part-time scholars receive a smaller study support grant towards non-fee costs.

Which nationalities can apply
Every nationality can apply.
How to apply
- Choose your Oxford course and check its deadlines on the graduate course page.
- Apply for the course by its December or January deadline. There is no Clarendon form and nothing extra to send.
- Your department nominates candidates, and the academic divisions shortlist them in February or March.
- Successful candidates are emailed, most by the end of April. If you have heard nothing by mid-June, you have not been awarded one.
Before you apply: things to know
- It is highly competitive: Oxford says most scholars have at least a first-class degree or equivalent, such as a GPA of 3.7 out of 4.
- A course's final January deadline counts, but applying by an earlier deadline can bring an earlier decision on your place.
- Some Oxford courses charge an application fee; check your course page for waivers.
