About the position

Generative AI has changed how university students find information and learn, but researchers still know little about what students actually do with AI, and what they learn from it, in specific subjects. This postdoc studies how students learn together when AI tools are part of their coursework.

The project uses design-based research, in which researchers and teachers design, try out and improve learning activities together over several rounds. It runs with students at the University of Oslo's Faculty of Educational Sciences, in the KITE research group, and is part of the AI projects of TRUST, the Norwegian Centre for Trustworthy AI.

What you will do

  • Write and carry out your own postdoc project on collaborative learning and AI in higher education.
  • Design, test and analyse learning activities with students, working with senior KITE researchers.
  • In the four-year version of the post, a quarter of your time goes to teaching in the department.

Who can apply

  • A PhD in the learning sciences, educational sciences, educational psychology or human–computer interaction.
  • A thesis covering areas such as learning theory, the design of learning environments, design-based research, or digital technology and AI in education. Theses that study how people interact with intelligent technologies get priority.
  • Your thesis must be submitted for assessment by the deadline, and the appointment depends on it being approved.
  • English is required; spoken and written Norwegian is an advantage.

What is offered

  • A full-time postdoc post for three or four years, paid NOK 595,000 to 670,000 a year depending on experience.
  • From the salary, 2% goes to the State Pension Fund, which gives membership of one of Norway's best pension schemes, with good mortgage and insurance terms.
  • A career plan and career guidance aimed at qualifying you for an associate professor post, plus teaching training if you need it.

How to apply

  • Apply through Jobbnorge, the University of Oslo's recruitment system, linked below. All documents must be in English or a Scandinavian language, and nothing can be added after the deadline. Incomplete applications are not assessed.
  • A cover letter, and a project proposal of 7 to 8 pages with a timeline outlining three or four papers. It must set out the theory, methods, design process, data analysis and research questions. The advert encourages you to contact the listed professors for guidance first.
  • A CV, a copy of your PhD diploma (or proof of submission plus a letter from your supervisor on when you expect the degree), and your transcripts.
  • A full list of publications, any works you want considered, and two or three referees.
